3rd Grade Math Concepts
Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping
In 3rd grade, we learn to add and subtract big numbers! Sometimes, we have to carry or borrow to make sure the numbers line up perfectly. Imagine it like when you add up money, and you need to exchange some coins to make it all fit.
Multiplication and Division Basics
Multiplication is like fast addition. It helps us when we have to add the same number many times, like 3 times 4 is 12! Division is like sharing. It helps us split things into equal groups, like dividing 12 candies into 3 groups means each group gets 4 candies.
Fractions and Equivalent Fractions
Fractions are like pieces of a whole. If you cut a pizza into 8 slices and have 3, that's 3/8 of the pizza! Equivalent fractions are like different ways to say the same thing, like 1/2 is the same as 2/4 or 4/8.
Geometry: Shapes and Angles
Geometry is all about shapes and angles. You'll learn about triangles, rectangles, circles, and more. Angles are like turns or corners in shapes, and some angles are big, while others are small.
Measurement: Length, Volume, and Weight
Measurement helps us compare sizes. Length tells us how long something is, like measuring a book with a ruler. Volume is how much space is inside something, like a cup of water. Weight is how heavy or light something is, like comparing a feather to a rock.
