Fourth graders are in a tough spot, knowing that fifth grade is creeping upon them. In some school districts, moving onto fifth grade means going into a new school. Keeping that in mind, spelling can greatly affect the ability for the student to write and read with a larger vocabulary. Schools often have different ways to help children spell more efficiently. The teachers are the ones who spend the most time with the students involving learning. Spelling may come easy to some students, and others not so much. Giving students proper materials to study words, and learning how to spell/learn meanings of new words. I will provide some tips below to show different ways to help you child learn to spell more difficult words, and develop more entertainning ways to encourage learning.

Here are some tips you can use for studying:

• Create flash cards to help your child study different words with varying levels of difficulty.
• Using the stair method can be helpful, this contains choosing a word foir the child to spell. Have the child first say the first letter, then progressively have them repeat the letters until the word is spelled.
• One thing to help study is having the child spell words for something they are interested in. Starting out with easier words, and then progessively giving more difficult words.
• Another way to have some fun when learning new words is playing Scrabble. This game can be helpful by spelling different words, encouraging your child to spell mor edifficult words during the game.
• Positive reinforcement can greatly help a fourth grader succeed. Each time the child spells their given words correctly, give them a reward that the child would typically see as entertaining.
