One piece of technology that has really helped law enforcement is the use of rapid identification systems. They have a database
that all offices can use to look someone up. They can quickly see someone's information like a picture, age, name, and ethnicity. They
can also quickly look up and see their criminal history or if they have a warrant for their arrest. They used to have to raido in to get
the information that they needed on someone. Now they just have a laptop in their squad car that does all that.
Nowadays law enforcement has a plethora of technology that they can use to track or monitor an individual. They have drones that they
can use to get an aerial view of an area without having to call in a helicopter. They have GPS that they can use to track a car that was
stolen or someone with a monitor on. They have a system that can detect gunshots. It can tell how many shots there were, how many people
there are, and the location of the shot. They also have cameras that can scan a car's licence plate and you can get information about that
vehicle.
They expect that the number of robots that aid law enforcement is going to grow quickly in the next five years. In 2016 the police acquired
a lot of robots from the U.S. military. These robots are mainly used to remove bombs and to recon dangerous situations. They expect that
the robots that will be used are going to look for suspicious activities and patrol certain areas. Some areas like Dubai and China are already
using robots with police capabilities.
