Welcome to the Larry's first history lesson.
Today's lesson: History of Japan and it's superstitious culture.
Throughout history, Japan has been incredibly isolated which has led to a variety of situations where various cultural points that dictated their past ended up being uninfluenced by the outside world.
Past that, a variety of the key points ofthe past are still considered and utilized in their culture today:
- Kabuki - Still practiced to this day as a form of entertainment, and the theatrics may be inspiration for things such as the "sentei" genre of shows.
- "Yokai" - Their equivalents to cryptids. While the belief in them actually existing has long since vanished in Japan, they still are a popular aspect of their pop culture.
- Folk heroes - Even to this day a lot of old folk heroes in Japan have prominent roles in modern media. Whether it's stories dedicated entirely to them or characters referencing the heroes, a lot of popular japanese media takes advantage of these people.
- Samurai - Specifically dubbed "bushido" in most cases, it's inarguable that Samurai are not only a huge part of their current culture but also popular in various cultures around the world itself. One key example is the popular cartoon "Samurai Jack" that was made in America.
- Mythology - While they generally don't believe in the myths at all (similar to that of their lack in belief in their Yokai), the tales behind the mythology molds a variety of modern stories (whether it's books or their various television programs).
